How To Stop A Nose Bleed

Nose Bleed

Ok, so I’ve been sick for the past few days with the typical symptoms; sore throat, blocked nose, runny nose, lots of goey mucus etc. Because of the excessive mucus, I’ve been blowing my nose every 5-10mins. As a result, my nostrils are extremely dry and damaged, leading to several nose bleeds.
After multiple experiences with severe nose bleeds, I have found the most effective way of stopping and preventing further nose bleeds:

Step 1

Tissue Up Nose

  • Shuve a tissue up your nose (this may sound weird but it really works!)

Nose Bleed Error

  • Simply holding a tissue below your nose will not work, I have tried this and found having a tissue up your nose somehow speeds up the blood clot and stops the bleeding faster

Nose Bleed Error 2

  • The second mistake a lot of people make is tilting your head back while pinching the bridge of your nose. DO NOT DO THIS. The blood will simply flow into your stomach which can cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Step 2

  • While having a tissue shuved up your nose, tilt your head forward, making sure the blood isn’t flowing down your throat.
  • Apply pressure (pinch) the bridge of your nose.
  • Wet your forehead and face with cold water to lower the blood rush
  • Breathe with your mouth
  • If you are bleeding a lot, make sure the tissue in your nostril isn’t completely soaked in blood or it will become too wet for you to remove from your nose (so change the tissue if you think it’s getting too soaked up in blood)

Once the blood has stopped

  • Do not clean the inside of your nose after the bleeding has stopped. This can dislodge the clot and start the bleeding again, so be patient and wait a while.
  • Once you’ve cleaned the insides, a great way to prevent further bleeding is to apply Vaseline gel or lip balm to the inside of your nostril to provide protection with moisture.
